Maggie's class had a very important job to do this morning. We had to smile nicely and say "cheese" for our Class Photo. I bet we'll have fun looking back at this photo when we are in 6th Class!
It was a big day in Junior Infants today. We used our scissors for the first time! We were very very careful and made sure to use them safely as they are very sharp. Can you see how we are concentrating? For our first time we did a great job. We have had a very busy time during our first week in First Class! We’ve been having fun getting to know one another. During PE, we learned some games we can play on the playground, like ‘In and Out Go Dusty Bluebells’ and ‘Captain May I’. We’ve also been talking all about our local area; the buildings and nature we see on our journey to and from school; as well as the people who live and work in the community and help to make Citywest/ Saggart/ Tallaght a great place to live! Check back here regularly for updates as to what we’ve been doing! Look who made the cover of The Echo Life magazine! We invited Joe, the photographer from The Echo, to our school for Play Hour on Tuesday. He captured the vibrancy, fun and learning that takes place during this special time in our day. We see the children wholly engaged in books, learning about engineering as they build castles and rockets, embracing their imagination by turning a cardboard box into any number of exciting places, dressing up as super-heroes, cowboys, pirates and more and using Maths skills in making jigsaws and practicing being shopkeeper and customer! Through play, our pupils develop their language and their social skills, their self confidence and their friendships! This is a lovely celebration of this important time in their learning. There is a lovely two-page spread about our school in The Echo today, with a beautiful photo of two of our pupils on the cover of the Life mag. Try to pick up a copy! We'll post a link once the online version is available!
Our photo proofs have arrived from the photographer and will go home today. Our children have beautiful smiles!
Order forms for the County Photos picture of your child/their class are now in the children’s bags. Correct money and the form for orders should please go into the envelope provided and can come back to Caitríona, Ross or Aoife before Thursday 11th October 2012. Why not encourage your child to be responsible for giving this back to us and build up their independence? There is, of course, no obligation to buy. The photographer was in the school today to take the first ever portrait photographs at Citywest Educate Together NS. Every child had an individual photo taken. We took a class photo and a whole-school photo (which was the class photo with Ross and Caitriona added in!) and we took a staff photo - the children had great fun trying to make Caitriona and Ross smile for the camera! These photos will be important for our history books!
The proofs will be back in two weeks for parents to decide on. Our Staff page has been updated to include our Learning Support and Language Support teacher, Martina Byrne. Martina is a very busy lady, working in 4 different schools every week! Martina helps us learn for one hour every day. Some days she teaches phonics and maths to our Senior Infant pupils and other days she works with Ross in the classroom, helping to make sure that every child gets the support he or she needs. She also helps us on the yard, teaching us new games and helping us to play together. Please visit our class page to see some photos of the lovely work we did outside today, decorating our yard! It was so much fun! |
