The last story of Book Week and Mother Language Week was a story in English. Sophie read us Room on the Broom. We had a great discussion about whether this was a kind or a mean witch and we talked about what we would do if we were in her position. It was a lovely finish to a most successful week! Jurgita read us a Lithuanian story about the tortoise who wanted to find a mate but was always too slow. The illustrations in the book are beautiful and we really enjoyed the story, though we felt sad for the poor tortoise. Sandra visited us on Friday and read us a beautiful story in Catalan. Sandra was very interested to hear all about our own mother languages and gave everyone a chance to tell her about their language. We had lots of questions about the story she read, which was about how a very hairy rhino and a bald flamingo helped each other out! What a lovely morning we had with Julia and Filip's dad, grandad and grandma! Following the story that Peter read, there was a great discussion in Polish. Having three native Polish speakers in the room was so wonderful and gave every child a chance to speak and to be heard and answered in their own mother language. There's something special about having grandparents in the school and something extra-special about ones that travel across many countries to do it! dziękuję! Ar an Aoine, léigh Ailish leabhar álainn darbh ainm Ar an mBóthar dúinn. Thaitin sé go mór linn! Bíonn áthas ar gach duine dul ar saoire ach tá sé tábhachtach teacht abhaile arís! Anjala came to the school on Thursday to tell us all about Akbar and Birbal. Anjala was so enthusiastic and fun and she used half English and half Hindi to tell us two stories. Some of us already knew about these characters and we loved hearing Hindi at school! Emmanuela visited us on Thursday to read this lovely book for us. We really enjoyed seeing the different parts of the dragon hiding throughout the story. It was so funny! Even those of us who don't speak Italian could understand the story and we loved the texture of the pages! It was so lovely to hear such a lovely Italian story! On Thursday, Lucasz came to read us a story in Polish. He read a great story about Maja's favourite story character, Pippi Longstocking. We had a great discussion in Polish afterwards and Lukasz heard everyone's news - in Polish! It was so great to hear the natural chat in the children's mother language in the school and we all love the strong character of Pippi! |
