Welcome back to school!
Hi there and welcome to another school year at Citywest Educate Together National School!
We are very excited about the coming year and hope you are too!
School Information
Your child's teacher this year will be (teacher's name). Visit our website for all our news and for information about the school, including about all of our teachers, and see photos of them. Your child's classroom will be on the (first/second) floor of the school.
First Day Back
Building work at the school is finishing up this week. The teachers will not be given access to the classrooms until Friday evening. However, we are confident that we will be opening at 8.30am on Monday, as planned. At 8.30am on Monday, please line up as for last year, in the same spot as last year. This may well change as we settle in. If it does, your child will let you know of the revised plan.
We ask you not to accompany the children into the school on this morning, for a number of reasons. Mainly, we need to focus on keeping every child safe and on welcoming the children back to school. Also, we will be preparing to welcome 60 new pupils in Junior Infants very shortly after the older children arrive and we would really like to have the older classes settled before we turn our focus to the littlest ones. We very much thank you for your co-operation with this. Please be reassured that you will be welcomed to visit your child's classroom during the coffee morning on Tuesday 2nd/Wednesday 3rd September.
For 2nd class: School on Monday is a full day, as usual. Please collect your child promptly at 2.10pm.
For 1st class: School on Monday is a full day. As your child has now moved up to First Class, this means that school will finish at 2.10pm and not at 1.10pm. Please collect your child promptly at 2.10pm.
For Senior Infants: School on Monday is a full day. Please collect your child promptly at 1.10pm.
Car Park
Please allow lots of time for parking safely when you get to the school. It is everyone's responsibility to ensure that our car park remains safe for everyone. Once your child is safely inside the school building, please leave promptly, particularly on this first morning. It will be a very busy morning for the car park, with two schools and the pre-school reopening, both schools growing significantly, including the arrival of almost approx 150 new families.
September Events
There are a number of events planned for the first two weeks of school. Please check our calendar for details. You are welcome to a coffee morning at 8.30am on Tuesday 2nd/Wednesday 3rd September. This will be an opportunity for you to meet the parents of children in your child's class and to visit your child's classroom. You are also invited for a Parents' Information Evening on Thursday 11th September, from 6.50pm to 9pm. This is again an opportunity to meet with other parents and also to meet all members of our school staff. At 7.30pm/8pm/8.30pm prompt, (teacher's name) will give a brief presentation outlining his/her plans for working with the pupils of Senior Infants/1st class/2nd class this year. (Teacher's name) will also be available earlier in the evening to chat with you and to answer any specific questions you may have. Please note that this event is for adults only.
Communication with (Teacher's name)
Should you wish to speak with (teacher's name) at any stage, please make an appointment through Nicola, our school secretary. At 8.30am each morning, (teacher's name) is focussed on welcoming the children to school and on setting up their day to be positive and productive. E-mail is a great way to convey factual messages such as why your child was/will be absent. Please e-mail Nicola at [email protected] with these messages and Nicola will be sure to pass them on.
After-School Activities
We have a diverse range of after-school activities. After-school classes will start in the 3rd week of school. Before then, information will be distributed about them. You do not need to do anything at this stage.
School Expenses
School expenses are now overdue. Please pay any outstanding amount to Nicola in the school office. Resources and supplies for the children have already been ordered and our invoices are due to be paid. If you have difficulty paying this money, please come and talk with me about it. I would be happy to arrange a payment plan with you.
Not coming back?
If your child is not coming to us this year, for whatever reason, please let me know straight away so that I can offer the place to the next child on the waiting list.
Communication this week
Unfortunately, we have no internet access at the school this week, following the building work over the summer. Our phone is also not yet connected. However, I will be checking my e-mail periodically. That is the best way to get a message to us for now, until we get things set up again.
I look forward to seeing you all at 8.30am on Monday morning.
Kind regards,
Caitriona Hand,
School Principal.
We are very excited about the coming year and hope you are too!

School Information
Your child's teacher this year will be (teacher's name). Visit our website for all our news and for information about the school, including about all of our teachers, and see photos of them. Your child's classroom will be Room 1/2/3, which is on the ground floor of the school.
First Day Back
Building work at the school is finishing up this week. The teachers will not be given access to the classrooms until Friday evening. However, we are confident that we will be opening on Monday 1st September, as planned.
Please do not arrive to the school car park any earlier than 9.05am. There are two schools on our campus, as well as a pre-school. We have staggered the start times so as to allow each group of parents and children the safest access possible.
Between 9.10am and 9.20am, please accompany your child into the school building. The doors will not be opened any earlier than 9.10am as we will be focussing on settling the older classes before turning our attention to your children. Please accompany your child to Room 1/2/3, which is (specific directions given for each class). Help to settle your child with an activity and then leave him/her, reassuring them that you will be back in just a few hours. Our Parents' Association will have tea/coffee for you in the reception area. This is a good opportunity for you to get to know the parents of other children in Junior Infants.
School finishes for Junior Infants at 11.40am for the first two weeks of school. Being on time to collect your child from school is important as it increases your child's sense of security while with us. Please be on time to collect your child from school.
Car Park
Please allow lots of time for parking safely every time you get to the school. It is everyone's responsibility to ensure that our car park remains safe for everyone. Parking for parents is in the main body of the car park. Please follow the directional arrows at all times and reverse into the parking spot. Allow others right of way and always watch out for children. The yellow box areas are for set-down only - do not park in a yellow box.
First Day Requisites
On the first day of school, your child needs to wear weather-appropriate clothes that he/she can manage him/herself. Each child also needs a small snack and drink, again ones they can manage independently.
Your child must be toilet trained before starting school. However, we recognise that children can have accidents. Please send in spare old clothes if you have some so that we can give children dry clothes in such an event.
