Autism, formally known as ASD: Autism Spectrum Disorder, is a condition that is often misunderstood by many, so as a school, we feel it important to shine a light on autism so that all of our community can become that much more knowledgeable about it! This is the second time we have marked the event, with last year seeing the children and staff ‘go blue’ to create a large-scale autism ribbon symbol. This was a very special event for Citywest ETNS as it too marked the opening of our very first special class for children with ASD! |
- Take a look at the information slides below, which have been put together by some teachers in our school who have worked with children with autism. These slides will be presented to all classes in Citywest ETNS on Monday, so feel free to discuss any of the information you read with your child!
- Download this fun, and colourful children’s information booklet. There are lots of little activities, stories, and interesting discussion points on autism for you to share with your child.
- Keep up with ‘Autism and Me’ on RTE. This is a new series on RTE 1, which documents the experiences of various children in Ireland who have been diagnosed with different forms of autism. It is a great way to see what life in their shoes - or their families’ shoes - is like on the day-to-day.
