Its hard to believe we are at the end of the first term of the school year already! It was a very busy term with lots of new staff, buildings and events.
We are thrilled to welcome Anita Collings, Deputy Principal, back to school today, following her three months of leave. Anita will be taking over the support teaching timetable that Cillian has been covering. Cillian is not leaving us quite yet, however. He is staying with us until at least the middle of January.
School finishes at the usual time this Friday, 22nd December, and reopens at 8.30am on Monday 8th January. I hope that you all enjoy quality family time with both rest and fun during the school break and we look forward to seeing everyone again in 2018!
Send back school books
This week, we are trying to tidy up and organise all of our teaching resources, ready for the new term. We have noticed that we are missing a number of PM readers. These are part of a very structured reading scheme. The books are expensive and we only have one or two copies of each book. Please have a look around at home and send in any you may find. It is very important that we have the full set as each child reads through the levels at his/her own pace and not having a book can upset this process.
Don't share hats!
Please remind your children that hats are personal items and are not for sharing. Some classes have had numerous incidents of lice and nits and the sharing of hats is not helping to get rid of them. Hats include novelty hair items, ear muffs and anything else that might facilitate the transfer of little creatures from one head to another.
When you get a notice from us about head lice, it is vitally important that every family checks the head of every member of the family. If eggs or creatures are found, they must be treated immediately and also treated one week later. Bed clothes, coats, hats, scarves, pillows, couch cushions, teddies - everything that could hide a louse - need to be washed at a high temperature. Again, this needs to be done twice - immediately and a week later.
Yes, it is an absolute nuisance. But if everyone did it right in the first place, we would seriously reduce the number of times it has to be done throughout the year. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Winter Concert and Raffle
Children and teachers are working hard to prepare three great shows for Friday. Please read some reminders about the day.
Raffle tickets will be on sale at the end of the school day every day this week and at the start of the school day on Thursday, as well as throughout the day on Friday, up to the start of the 2nd concert. Please support the raffle, which the PA have worked hard on and which is to raise funds so we can buy a set of jerseys for our sports teams to wear.
We are still accepting prizes for the raffle in the school office. Thanks so much to those who have donated already.
