School-Home Communication

Most home-school communication for our school is electronic - via our website, via e-mail and via text.

Please make sure to check our website and your e-mail regularly so that you keep up-to-date. Once you have read an e-mail from us, please click to acknowledge receipt so that we know you have received it.

While we aim to reduce the number of paper notes sent home, there will be times when it is necessary. If you think you may have missed a note, please check with Nicola, our school secretary, either in person or via e-mail.

It is your responsibility to make sure that we have up-to-date contact details for you. Please use the button below to let us know if any details have changed.

21st October - Email to all families: Healthy Living Week

21/10/2016

Dear parents and guardians,
We are celebrating Health Living Week in the school from Monday 24th to Friday 28th October and all pupils will take part. The aim is to raise awareness of healthy living and to promote healthy living choices. We will try different activities to help our minds keep healthy too!
In essence, this week is a celebration and focused reminder of how important it is to make healthy choices and lifestyle changes whether we are young or a little older. We would love if you could support our drive towards being a health-promoting school by providing your child with healthy snacks and water for break time each day, especially during Healthy Living Week. You could also try some mindfulness activities together at home to support positive mental health. Finally we would really appreciate any donations of vegetables, fruit and herbs.
If you would like to know more about what will be happening next week in the school, there is lots of information our school website - check out our News page over the weekend and throughout next week.
Up to now, we have had a strict No Food Sharing policy in our school. However, next week we would like to allow the children in our school to taste foods, soups, smoothies and snacks as part of their learning e.g. when talking about vegetables and fruit in Science, when writing recipes in English or when discussing a healthy diet in SPHE. Tasting foods makes the learning more meaningful and more fun.
Below is a list of the foods teachers will be using as part of their lessons throughout the week.
If your child has any allergies, it is vital that he/she knows about those and knows how to avoid foods he/she should not eat. Likewise, if there are restrictions in the foods your child is allowed to eat, he/she should be able to manage that for him/herself. If you have a concern regarding the listed foods, please let your child's class teacher know on Monday.

Food List
Chickpeas , tahini, lemon, salt, garlic, paprika, parsley, olive oil, butter, onion, parsnip, milk, chicken stock, pepper, ginger, garam masala, vegetable stock, broccoli, cream, carrots, celery, peppers, white bread, yoghurt, cayenne pepper, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, oranges, porridge oats, honey, mint, raspberries, caster sugar.

With your co-operation, we are confident that Healthy Living Week will be a great success and the children (and staff) will have a healthy and an enjoyable week!
Kind regards,
Claire, Sarah C and Deirdre - Healthy Living Week Coordinators
Caitriona, Principal
