March PA Meeting

Next PA Meeting is on Tuesday, Mar 24th at 7.30pm.
Please read below note in regards to focus subject of this meeting.

Our intention at this meeting is to look at the issue of Educate Together at Second Level for our children.  As you may or may not be aware, there is not an Educate Together Second Level for our children to progress on to when they leave Citywest Educate Together National School.  And believe it or not, the Department of Education will not take the initiative themselves and begin the process on our behalf - it is us parents who need to do this on behalf of our children.

To get the ball rolling with regard to establishing a Second Level Educate Together school requires a concerted campaign by parents - as was the case with all the hard work involved in establishing Citywest Educate Together National School, of which we are all proud members.

The upcoming Parents' Association meeting is going to look at the implications for our children if there is no Second Level school which follows the same ethos to which we have all committed by sending our children to Citywest Educate Together National School.
What does this mean if there is no Second Level Educate Together?
What are our options?
How do we get started?

The 3 main objectives of the upcoming meeting will be:
1. To gauge interest in the number of families who wish to send their children from Citywest Educate Together onto a Second Level Educate Together.
2. To inform parents of the issue of no Second Level Educate Together for our children
3. We will also be looking at looking at establishing a committee to get the project off the ground.

This remains an informal meeting, no one is obliged to do or say anything - however, the PA see it as imperative that all parents are aware of the issue at hand, what their options are and how they can get on board with the upcoming campaign.

It's an issue which you can't hope someone else will take on board and fortunately we can all do something to help no matter how big or small.

Look forward to seeing you on March 24th.

If you have any questions, please contact Clara on citywestetns.parents@gmail.com

Kind regards
The Parents' Association

PA Meetings

Next PA Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb 24th at 7.30pm.
Discussion will be around next events planned: Mid-Term Disco, St Patrick's Parade, policies creation and suggestions for new PA involvement areas. Everyone welcome!

Next PA Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 25th Nov at 7.30pm in school.
We will discuss progress Drop Off, Christmas Concert and Fundraising ideas for the coming months as well as ongoing issues and suggestions. All parents welcome!

Christmas Concert

On Friday 19th of December we will be hosting our 1st ever Multi Cultural Concert. As many of our children and parents/guardians speak different languages we thought it would be fantastic to listen to songs in their native language. This amazing event will be a great opportunity for all to learn together & proudly celebrate our schools multicultural community.

Our wonderful teachers have agreed to assist with coordinating this event but YOUR help is crucial to its success. We are looking for parents/guardians to get involved to help teach the children to sing a song in their language. We know we have Spanish, Italian, Catalan, Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian, Arabic, French, Portuguese, Irish speakers among us – to name but a few! So here’s your chance to show your pride and get involved! We appreciate this is a busy time of year for everyone but we are only asking for an hour or two of your time. Fear not – it’s not Xfactor so we won’t be judging your vocal abilities! We just need your assistance with helping the children learn the words, also if you have a CD we could borrow or know YouTube clips we could use.

Please join us for what is going to be a very exciting event for our children. If you would like to get involved please contact our Parents Association Committee (Kamila) at kamila.cyluk@gmail.com by Wednesday 26th of November.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Who Are We?

Drop Off Program update

In the last week before Mid Term we have run pilot week with Drop Off Scheme.
First of all we want to pass a huge thanks to parents who volunteered to help during the week. We wouldn't have been able to do it without you!

Day one and two were lighter when most of parents have been observing how the rota works, however later in a week more and more cars stopped to let children out into the drop off area and let them be escorted to school by parents volunteers. We had hands full most of the time! And more importantly, children enjoyed the change as they felt so grown up being handed over to parents of their friends!

Now we need to hear from you and your experience: Have you enjoyed it? Do you want the program to be permanent part of the school run in our school? what was good, what would you change? we are asking for few minutes of your time to fill in the poll attached to let us know what you think.

Also you are very welcome to come and join PA meeting tomorrow evening, 4th Nov @ 7.30pm to discuss last week's pilot run and help decide if this idea worth continuing.

Here are few snapshots from last week.

Mid Term Disco update

On the 24th Oct our PA has organized Mid Term Disco and fundraiser for all children from the school. They all enjoyed the fun dance and dressing up, look at all the amazing costumes they prepared for the day!
Teachers and parents had a great time as well and everyone  was wrecked after the party, surely more than the kids themselves!

Earlier in a day teachers have been helping to collect all your generous donations. We have raised over €376, which will contribute to the Maths Recovery Program training for one of our teachers.
Many thanks to all of you who contributed to this great cause which will help our children to grow their maths knowledge.

Here are few pictures from the Disco, enjoy!

Parental Involvement in Citywest ETNS

Parental involvement is really important to us.

We love to work with parents in the education of their children and in improving our community.

Some examples of how parents have been involved in our school so far this year are:
- various gardening projects, led by individual parents
- coffee mornings, led by school staff, our Parents' Association and/or individual parents
- Maths For Fun: volunteer parents work alongside teachers in playing Maths games with the children
- accompanying us on trips such as our visit to TLC Nursing Home
- leading the children in creating a mural design and then creating that mural for our school

We are open to lots more involvement and welcome parents coming to us with ideas!

Our very first Parents' Association was created in Autumn 2013.

They are currently working on a Constitution document. We look forward to hearing about all of their plans!

Classes for Parents

Over time, we hope to provide lots of opportunities for parents to meet and to learn and to develop. In early 2013, we started with evening set dancing classes for adults.

In 2014, we look forward to developing a programe for parents. If anyone has any ideas or has a class they would like to run, please approach Catriona and speak with her about it.
