Swimming
All children in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th classes will go swimming during this academic year, as was noted on the booklists for these classes in June 2022. Swimming is an important part of the primary school curriculum and the learning objectives can be found within the Aquatics strand of the Physical Education (P.E.) curriculum.
While swimming is usually for pupils in 1st to 4th classes only, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, some year groups have missed two consecutive blocks of swimming. To compensate for this lost time, for three years, children in 5th class will also attend swimming lessons.
Parents are not permitted access to the changing rooms. If you have a concern that your child will have difficulty drying, dressing or undressing themselves, you now have time to develop those skills. Make sure that your child is themselves for bed at night and for their bath or shower. Encourage your child to dry themselves after their bath or shower and to dress themselves again. Long hair takes particular care - now is the time for your child to learn how to manage their wet hair. If you are going away for a night or even packing a bag for a day out, encourage your child to pack and unpack for themselves. These are important life skills.
If your child does not have a swim suit, now is the time to buy one.
If you have any concerns in relation to your child going swimming, please address them with the class teacher as soon as possible. This will allow us all to work together on a plan to get you and your child ready to take part in this important part of their learning at school.
Dates of swimming lessons have been sent to parents and guardians via email.
