Newsletter September 2014
Welcome (Back)!
We are delighted to welcome all of our pupils back to school and thrilled to welcome all of our new pupils and families. Thank you for joining our community!
Electronic Communication
This year, we are aiming to improve communication and save money for our school by using mainly electronic communications. We will be making a huge effort to reduce the pieces of paper being sent home. Our aim is to depend on the use of our website and e-mail instead.
This also takes the responsibility off the children for the most part and places it back with the adults.
It is our responsibility to put the information on the website and to send the e-mails in a timely fashion.
It is the responsibility of parents and guardians to check our website regularly (at least once a week) and the e-mail account associated with the e-mail address you gave us (at least twice a week). Please let us know that you have received our e-mail by clicking on the “received” link at the bottom of the e-mail.
Feedback is appreciated so that we can continue to improve home-school communications.
Letters this week
This week you are receiving a number of letters and forms. These letters and forms are also available on our website and can be completed and submitted online.
English not your first language?
Using our website for communication means that you can read our letters and information in your own language! Click on “Select language” at the top of the web page and then on the name of your language.
Absence from school
If your child is absent from school, you must write to us, including the date(s) he/she was absent and the reason for the absence. There is no need for a doctor’s cert.
Car park
We have a shared campus and a very busy car park.
Please walk, cycle, run, scoot or flik to school rather than drive!
If you must drive, please allow lots of time. Park responsibly, reversing into an available space. Do not park outside the gate, in a yellow box or outside of a parking spot. Allow others out in front of you and look out for walking children. Particularly at our gate, drive slowly so that you can see whether there are pedestrians on the path.
Collection time at the end of the school day
Children in Junior Infants should be collected from the classroom door. Do not allow your child to come out of the classroom without the teacher calling him/her. It is important that the teacher knows who collected each child. This is to protect your child.
Children in Senior Infants should be collected from the reception hall. As for last year, wait for the teacher to see you and to call your child before allowing him/her to come to you.
Children in 1st and 2nd class can be collected at the front door of the school. The teacher will not be matching up parents and children as they did in the Infant classes. You need to make sure that your child knows who will be collecting them and knows to say “No” and tell the teacher if someone arrives to collect them who they are not comfortable going with. If you wish for us to allow your child to leave the school unaccompanied, please talk with Caitriona or the class teacher.
Faith formation classes
We will facilitate an after-school faith formation class for children of any faith, should the parents choose to organise that. Please speak with Caitriona if you wish to organise such a class.
We commit to parents that we will permit each faith group to write to the parent body no more than once per year. If the letter is not relevant to you, simply discard it.
