Be the primary educator of your child!
Being a parent is the greatest honour in the world. Of course, it can also be tiring and demanding and downright difficult! We try our best to support our parents while also encouraging you and honouring you as the primary educator of your child.

School-home communication
Weekly maintenance
The weekly modes of communication between home and school are information-sharing via the school website and emails. Parents of children in Infant classes meet their child's teacher briefly at the end of the school day as the children leave the room and urgent messages can be conveyed very briefly at this point. For older children, the home learning diary is a great way to pass messages between teacher and parent.
Annual Information Evenings
Each January, our staff hosts an Information Evening for parents considering enrolling their child(ren) to our school.
Each September, our staff hosts an Information Evening for parents of children enrolled in the school.
Annual Planning and Reporting for Individual Children
Each October is Student Support Plan month, when teachers and parents of children with additional needs meet to discuss the individual progress plan for the child. These meetings take place for approximately 15% of pupils enrolled in the school.
Each February, our teachers host parent-teacher meetings, where parent and teacher can discuss the progress of the individual child. These meetings are held for every child in the school.
Each June, an individual report card is completed for every child in the school and sent to parents.

Roles for Parents in the School
There are two elected parent nominees on the school's Board of Management. As it happens, there are currently four members of our Board of Management who are also parents of children in the school.
Every parent is automatically a member of the school's Parents Association.
We love to see parents coming in to the school to take part in what we are doing, such as running activity stations at Sports Day, painting faces at Family Fun Day or reading stories during Mother Language Week.Of course, you don't have to wait for an event to come in - we love to have parents join us for art activities, for example! In September 2017, we hosted seminars to discuss parental involvement in the school - read about it here - it might inspire you to come in and give something a try!

At the Parent Information Evening in September 2018, Caitriona and Anita gave this presentation to all parents in attendance. We hope that by sharing our priorities and focus, we can work better together in supporting our children.

Thanks from a parent
"Citywest educate together... From non-uniform to exploring individuality - it has it all. My daughter is a person. Not a number. Encouraged to make her own mind up and explore her own imagination. This goes for the children attending also. I am very impressed and very happy that I chose this school. And would just like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in making my child extremely happy. I highly recommend this school to new parents who are thinking about it. You will be making a wise choice. Thanks."
