Gaelic football continues at both break times every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as Bobby and I coach the children in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th class. We hope that the children are also practising their skills at home!

Last Friday was a very special and historic day as we unveiled our school jerseys. The boys and girls Gaelic football team proudly wore the jerseys during assembly. These children are the first who have represented the school in Gaelic football competition and we look forward to many more years in our new school jerseys.

Lots of fun is had and the children are learning the skills of Gaelic football. We hope that these children will be representing the school in tournaments in years to come.

A superb day was had as we entered the prestigious 4 Corners GAA Tournament in St Marys, Saggart. The competition is arranged by the club and the local schools are invited. This was an historic day for our school as it was our first time entering teams. Both the boys and the girls team acquitted themselves very well and did the school proud. As Gaelic football continues to grow and develop in our school we look forward to many more competitions. A huge thanks to all the parents who assisted this year and a special thank you to parents Niall, Lukasz and Harshdeep who helped on the day. A special mention to St Marys GAA Club, Saggart, who recognised our promotion and participation of Gaelic football this year with a presentation of a trophy to our school. The first of many.

The girls team are continuing to develop their skills, we have been focusing on the catch and the solo for the last few weeks. We have a tournament coming up soon so watch this space for more information.

After a long winter with plenty of snow it was great to get back onto the pitch. A great day was had at our Gaelic football games in St Mary's GAA club. 40 children from 4th and 5th played games and there was plenty of skills on show. Great fun was had and thanks to the parents who came along to help out. Parental support is key to ensuring our children continue to play GAA.

Gaelic football training

Gaelic football training continues every lunch break with 3rd, 4th and 5th classes. The snow and recent wet weather has unfortunately resulted in St Mary's GAA club's pitch being waterlogged so our planned games have been postponed. We hope to play them in the coming weeks. in the meantime we have been developing our kicking skills in the sports hall and having lots of fun doing so.

Gaelic football training and matches in January 2018

Gaelic football training continues every lunch time in our school. The children are having fun and improving their skills all the time. The pictures show classes  3rd, 4th and 5th in action. The emphasis on the training is always fun, games and skills. The children are excitedly looking forward to playing more matches in the Spring time as they represent the school against other schools in our locality. We also have a very special trophy coming to our school in the coming weeks so please watch this space. Until then, practice, practice, practice. Shane.

School GAA team

Our team started training in September 2017 and started playing matches in October 2017.

All children train together but play in separate teams for boys and girls when playing matches.

All children in 3rd, 4th and 5th classes are welcome to training sessions. Only children in 4th and 5th classes play in inter-school matches.

Shane Smith, teacher at our school, is Head Coach. We also get support from an external coach, Peter, as we have done since the school opened in 2012.

We are very proud to finally have a sports team for our school!

First match for the boys 20th October 2017

The boys played great on Friday and really enjoyed the challenge of their first match. Winning was a bonus. The wonderful achievement was how much the boys enjoyed the match and how proud they did themselves, their coach and our school. Well done, boys!

First match 12th October 2017

Our first ever match was played by the girls in 4th and 5th classes on Thursday 12th October 2017.
The girls played really well and we were all very proud of them!
