Mid-term break this week
Our school will be closed this Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th February for our mid-term break.
School will reopen at 8.30am on Monday 27th February.
We had a very busy half term, including STEM Week, the launch of our Active Flag programme and Friendship Week, amongst everything else happening at the school. Massive thanks to the teachers, student teachers and all staff who coordinated and ran such wonderful events for our school.
Thanks also to the high percentage of parents who took the opportunity of the Parent-Teacher Meetings to discuss their child's progress with the teacher(s). This engagement is very important for your child.
Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE)
RSE for all classes will take place in the 5 weeks following the February mid-term break.
This is a spiral curriculum, which builds each year on learning from the previous year.
There will be lots of learning about friendships and new babies so listen out for talk and conversation about that.
The RSE programme content is available online, where you can access it if you want to know more.
RSE resources needed
Our poor baby dolls are nude! We need some very small babygros to dress them in. If you have any preemie or tiny baby clothes that you are finished with, we would be delighted to accept them.
We also have a lot of baby-wearing families in our school and would love to give the children the opportunity to try wearing our baby dolls. If you have any child/toy slings that your family has finished playing with, we would be delighted to accept them. Scarves, ring slings, buckles, mei tais, wraps, any type would be wonderful!
If anyone has any tiny baby (size 1) nappies they won't need any more, we would be delighted to accept them also. We hope to show the children both disposable and cloth nappies and would be happy to accept either, with the cloth nappies being either very lightly used for very thoroughly washed of course! Again, we welcome any type of cloth nappy and would love to see bright and colourful ones in particular!
Reading books missing
We are missing some very valuable and expensive books from our reading programme. Please check your home for PM+ reading books and send them in if you find some.
We would much prefer to spend the Book Rental Scheme money this year on expanding our programme than on replacing lost books.
Please take care of school books and always return them.
New Parent Association Chairperson
Many congratulations to Eliza Knop on her appointment as Chairperson of our Parent Association (PA).
The following parents were also elected to the PA Committee as Class Reps:
Junior Infants - Cher Gates and Armelle Chupeau
Senior Infants - Fiona Kearney and Eliza Knop
1st Class - Joanne Smith and Anna Jeziorska
2nd Class - Klaudia Pawlowska
3rd Class - Elizabeth Peral
4th Class and Leonie's Class - no reps yet; please come forward if you would like to play a part in this
The PA undertook training earlier this month, which proved very useful and is inspiring the forward movement of the PA. They are now organising further training for the members of the PA Committee. 2017 is a great year to get involved in the PA and I encourage all parents and guardians to stay active in our school.
Parent Association Pancake Tuesday event
Our Parent Association are holding a Pancake Tuesday event next Tuesday, 28th February. Every child in the school will be offered a pancake to eat at school. There will be a choice of toppings too.
If your child is not permitted to eat the pancakes (which will be shop-bought), feel free to send in a pancake from home made with ingredients that are safe and/or acceptable for your child or another snack for them to enjoy while their classmates are eating pancakes. If your child is in Junior Infants or Senior Infants, please let their class teacher know in advance if they are not allowed to take a pancake. If your child is in an older class, please make sure they know the restrictions that apply to them and can restrict their eating to what they are allowed to eat.
Very high demand for places in our school
Please note that we have filled all places for the Junior Infant classes starting this September and have a waiting list in operation.
Our pre-enrolment list for Junior Infants starting in 2018 is already reaching the point at which we may reach capacity next year.
Our pre-enrolment lists for further years, right up to 2021, are filling also.
Our enrolment policy is strictly first-come-first-served with no priority for siblings of children already attending the school.
If you have any younger child(ren), please make sure to pre-enrol them immediately for our school, even if they are still babies.
Demand for places in our school is increasing and we would hate to see you disappointed.
No Morning Supervision
Reminder that our school accepts children from 8.30am each morning. Children are not permitted to be on school premises unsupervised before this time. You are responsible for your child(ren) until the teachers take responsibility for them after the bell goes at 8.30am each morning.
