We finished up the last half term on a great high, with a highly successful first ever Healthy Living Week, our most successful Cake Sale ever and the appointment of a new Parent Association Chairperson.
We have been busy over the mid-term and this coming week is another very exciting week in our school:
Two new teachers
We welcome Trina O'Donnell and Bobby Kelly to our teaching staff. Both Trina and Bobby will be joining our support teaching team, bringing the number on that team to seven - five full-time support teachers and two part-time teachers.
Three new classrooms
We move into our new classrooms this week. The new classrooms will be occupied by Eldon's 4th class, by Mary Treasa's Senior Infants class and by Kidorama Academy.
While Kidorama won't be moving into their new room for another month or so, we are happy for that new classroom to be used as a Meeting Room in the meantime. If you have a group who would like to use the room, please get in touch via the school office, allowing plenty of time for the organisation to happen.
Need a warm place to wait for your second child to start or finish school?
This is great news for parents who have two drop-off and/or collection times - you are most welcome to use this room while you wait. Please note that we can only allow families whose children attend Citywest ETNS to avail of the facility. When availing of this, please stay in the room for the duration of your wait - no wandering around the school. Any child(ren) accompanying you are your own responsibility at that time. Please leave the room as you would like to find it yourself, taking home all of your own rubbish or waste with you.
The room is booked for this from 8.30 to 9am each day for parents who have children attending our school and Kidorama Academy ECCE pre-school and again from 1.10pm to 2.10pm each day for parents who have a child in Junior or Senior Infants and another in a higher class. If you would like to use the room outside of these times, just let us know and we will accommodate that need if we can - it will be used as a teaching space between 9am and 1.10pm when meetings are not taking place.
Activities this week
Monday is our moving-in day - we will have a little ceremony just for the children in the two classes. We won't be able to accommodate visitors at this time but we will post photos to our website and we will invite parents of children in those classes to visit in a week or two.
Tuesday is the day we are taking photos for our new-look 2017 calendar - we will send a separate email later this evening with details about this.
On Wednesday and Thursday, we will be working with our friends from Citywest and Saggart CNS in painting the Buddy Bench for our shared play yard - every child in the two schools will get to add their thumb-print to the bench!
On Friday, the parents from the Second-Level Campaign are visiting to accept letters, pictures and projects from our Student Council. They hope to bring a special visitor with them but we are waiting for confirmation on this!
Activities later this half-term
At the end of November, we will have the Scholastic Book Fair visiting the school, followed by Mother Language Week so keep an eye out for details about those.
On the last day of term, Thursday 22nd December, we hope to hold our Winter Concert, including the Winter Raffle organised by our Parent Association.
There are other events in the process of being organised so keep checking the website for updates. Its a good idea to check in to our News page at least once a week so you don't miss out on anything!
Shared contact list
Last call to be added to the shared contact list for your child's year group - see email sent on 25th October for details. We will be putting the lists together this week and won't be able to amend them after that.
Car Park
The car park continues to be a source of stress for families in both schools. We have had some parents suggest having a group of parents supervise the car park on random dates, including putting stickers on cars parked where they shouldn't be. In fairness, we have given enough notice and information and warnings that this frustration is understandable and so we will give it a go. If you would like to be on the Car Park Squad, please reply to this message to let us know. There will be some initial meetings to attend to ensure that rules are enforced fairly.
Reminder:
- Park in allocated spots only, at the end of the building inside the Entrance gate, or in front of the vacant parts of the building, on the left as you drive through the campus.
- No parking on the right, against the hedge, as you drive through the campus.
- No parking in the Staff/Creche/Bus Car Park, which is inside the Exit gate - at any time!
- No parking in the Drop Off Zone at any time.
- No parking on the road outside the campus.
- Use the Drop-Off facility to save time and relieve pressure for all in the car park.
- Walk, cycle or take the LUAS if at all possible.
We look forward to seeing all the children back at school at 8.30am tomorrow morning!
Best regards,
Caitriona.
