Happy New Year and welcome back to a new school term!
Works taking place in car park
From today, works are taking place to make the cobblelock on our paths safer. We have been told that this should take no more than two weeks. This does mean there is disruption to the path so please take additional care, both when driving and when walking.
Drop Off Facility
The first piece of work taking place interferes with the area usually used for Drop Off. Therefore, Drop Off will take place a little further up the path, BEFORE the works area.
To ensure the children's safety when walking the additional distance, we could REALLY do with some extra helpers, at least this week. If you can help out for even one morning, just 8.30 to 8.40am, please get in touch. Your help will be much appreciated by the hard-working Drop Off team and by all families who use the facility. You can let us know by replying to this email.
Car Park
As always, we are at pains to remind parents that parking facilities are BEFORE the Drop Off area only. Parking after the Drop Off area is for school staff, school transport and parents with permits only. This is at all times of day.
Please remember that some disabilities are invisible. It is not anyone's place to judge why a parent has a permit. If you feel you may be entitled to one, talk to me about it.
Parking is in designated spots only, NOT by the fence.
All of this is in place to keep our children safe. Please do the right thing.
School Bus Facility
Following months of research and negotiating, a group of parents have secured a private bus service for our school. Many thanks to those parents for that work.
Details are as follows:
Bus company: Moloney Coaches
Start date: Monday 23rd January 2017, on a trial period of one month; continuation after that will depend on the numbers using the service
Cost: 20 euro per week for mornings and afternoons, 12 euro per week for mornings only; 12 euro per week for afternoons only
Areas serviced: The Belfry, Springfield, Corbally, The Square, Sundale, Russell Estate, Ard Mór and possibly Millrace (depending on traffic)
How to sign up: Contact Tony Moloney 0872621193
[email protected], www.moloneycoaches.com
Please note that Moloney Coaches does not have a contract with the school. This is a private arrangement between each parent and the company. Parents and guardians should approach this arrangement as they would any other childcare or child service arrangement. The school cannot process messages, bookings, payment or other between parents and the bus company.
Open Evening For Prospective Parents
School staff will host an open evening for prospective parents this Thursday from 6.45pm. If you know of any family looking for a school place in the area, please let them know about it.
The evening is only for parents whose children are not already attending the school.
STEM Week
Next week, we will be celebrating STEM Week in our school. We will be celebrating all things to do with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths so listen out for news of exciting activities the children are taking part in!
Parent Association Coffee Morning
Our Parent Association will host a coffee morning for parents in our school on the morning of Friday 27th January. Please come along. It is a great opportunity to meet other parents.
Slimming World and Kumon are in our building
We are delighted to see Kumon use our school for their classes. Slimming World (adults only, of course) will be moving to our building from Wednesday 25th January also. Keep an eye on our website for contact details for both.
English Classes for Parents
We are considering running English classes for parents. Please see our website for more.
School Opening Times
A reminder that the school opens at 8.30am each day. Teachers cannot take responsibility for any child before this time and children should not be left unsupervised.
Arrival time is 8.30 to 8.40am each morning. Children are expected to be in school by 8.40am.
School finishes for children in Junior and Senior Infants at 1.10pm each day. These children are collected directly from their classroom at 1.10pm each day.
School finishes for all other classes at 2.10pm. If you wish for your 1st to 4th class child to be accompanied home from school, you must ensure that there is someone at the school to meet them at 2.10pm. Your child should know what to do if there is no-one there to meet them.
School Website
Our school website, www.citywestetns.ie, is our main mode of communication. Please remember to check in every week to read our news and updates.
Wishing you all a great January!
Caitríona.
