We hope you and your family are doing well during this time of change. We miss your children and can’t wait to see them again!
As you know, we set out suggested learning activities for this fortnight. On that page, we have also linked other websites that may be useful, including links for helping to explain Covid-19 to children, links for supporting good mental health and Childline.
We have also added a page to showcase the learning and work the children are doing at home. Take a look at what families have already sent in - it might inspire you!
We are also sharing ideas, competitions and resources on our Facebook and Twitter pages so give us a follow on those if you use them.
When Our Taoiseach Leo Varakdar spoke to the nation on Tuesday night, he asked the young people of Ireland to do three things:
Call your grandparents
Do your schoolwork
Help your parents
What can we do to help the elderly and the vulnerable?
How can we keep learning?
How can we help those who are caring for us?
Our Taoiseach also indicated that it could be some time before we all return to school. Therefore, our teachers are working away in the background on programmes of work for the children for after 29th March. These programmes will be more focussed than the ones set for this fortnight, with each piece being key to the curriculum. We hope to move the plans onto each class website and to introduce a way for the children to send work directly to their teacher. This is an experience that none of us has ever had before and we thank you for your patience and support as we learn how to manage it alongside you.
We are in unprecedented times and this may cause stress and worry for some of our children. With this in mind, we suggest that all families print out the call and text numbers for Childline and leave them visible for children to see. Of course, ideally children would talk to their parents when they are feeling sad, confused, or worried but, with everybody having so much uncertainty to juggle at the moment, it is important that our young people have somebody else to talk to, outside of the home, if needs be.
We will be in touch next week when we know more about what is ahead of us.
Wishing you and your families all the very best at this time,
Caitriona and all the team at Citywest ETNS.
