What a year!

30/6/2014

Well, that was an amazing year for our school. Thank you so much to everyone in our community for their hard work, support and community spirit. It takes a community to build a community and we have a community to be proud of in Citywest ETNS!

Our Teddy Bears' Picnic today was a wonderful way to finish up the year and for everyone to head off for the summer with happy memories of their friends to keep them going all the way to September!

To mark the end of a very successful second year, our Board of Management has published a review of our year. We couldn't fit everything in but hope we've managed to fit in the highlights! We look forward to whatever exciting adventures the 2014/15 school year will bring!

We warmly wish all members of our community a great summer and we look forward to seeing you again on 1st September.

Road Safety

26/6/2014

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has introduced a new, free service in response to a frightening statistic that shows that as many as 3 out of 4 child car seats are incorrectly fitted which can result in serious injury or worse, a fatality in the event of a collision.

The ‘Check it Fits’ Service is a full-time, nationwide, free expert service which aims to put parent’s, grandparent’s , and guardian’s minds at ease that their child’s car seat is safely and securely fitted in their car.

The service is quick, it’s easy, it’s free and it has arrived in South Dublin where our experts will advise on how to fix any problem, demonstrate how to fit the restraint correctly and answer any queries participants might have.

Click here to find a list of locations we are visiting in South Dublin in July.

Today was a very exciting day for Junior and Senior Infants in Citywest Educate Together N.S. Emma, from RTÉjr came to our school along with her camera man, sound man and a few other helpers.  Emma was filming for a brand new children's television programme, which will be on our screens in September.  Emma is visiting lots of schools around the country to help her sing along and dance to some nursery rhymes for this new programme.  We were very pleased to be chosen as one of these schools.  All of our Junior and Senior Infants impressed Emma with their great singing voices and super actions to 'Ring A Ring A Rosie' and 'Pease Pudding Hot'.   Have a look  below at the photos of our day with the Television Crew.  We'll let you know when the episode will be on television closer to the time. For now you might like to have a look at the RTÉjr website.  Click on the link.  http://www.rte.ie/rtejr/sing-along/

Our First Student Council

4/6/2014

Citywest ETNS are delighted to announce the election of our very first Student Council, following requests from First Class for the formation of a council, and subsequent campaigning by a number of First Class students.
Every student and member of staff was involved in this democratic process, in which an Election Committee worked with Caitríona to lay the groundwork for Election procedures to be adhered to in elections in the coming years.

We all learned lots about the logistics of staging an election and have accumulated minutes of meetings, registration documents, etc. which will inform the planning of further elections in coming years at our school.
In total, there were six candidates for the council. Each of them prepared and gave speeches to each of the classes in the school, as well as making eye-catching posters and hanging them around the school.
In order to ensure that even the youngest children in school would be able to participate in the vote, each of the candidates chose a symbol which was listed alongside their name on the ballot papers. This meant that children who may struggle to read all the names could look for the symbol that was worn by their preferred candidate.
Ultimately, six children were elected to the Student Council, and they look forward to working closely with Caitríona to help to make our school  a better place for students and staff alike.
