World Book Day is this Thursday 2nd March! We will be celebrating the wonderful world of books this week by popping a book token worth €1.50 into your child's schoolbag. This token is a gift from our local booksellers and can be redeemed in many bookshops in the locality. Book tokens are redeemable for a specific time only (see back of token) so don't miss out, visit your local bookshop today! Happy Reading! |
Now that works have been completed in the New Wing, and we are well settled back into the New Year, we have begun what we hope will be a weekly tradition of having a whole school assembly on a Friday afternoon. This is an opportunity for all of the staff and children to gather together and celebrate new additions to the Golden Book. We also sing a song that we learned during Friendship Week: You've Got a Friend In Me. Here are photographs of some of the children whose kind deeds were celebrated last Friday. Keep up the good work everybody!
Following the first round of offers, ALL PLACES for Junior Infants starting this September have been filled. This is the first time ever for our school that all places were filled after just one round of offers. Many thanks to all parents and guardians for their efficient engagement with us on this.
We have limited places remaining in the following classes for September:
The following classes remain full for September with waiting lists in operation:
Children already in the school have their places confirmed in the school until they finish 6th class. There is no need to re-enrol a child already in the school. Forward Together Programme starting soon in Senior Infants
A nine week, home-help programme called the Forward Together Programme which aims to accelerate the child’s progress in reading and writing will begin on Tuesday 21st February. This has been done in several schools with great success. The programme will run from 13:10-14:10 on Tuesdays from 21st February and will be facilitated by the Senior Infant teachers. Research shows that intervention at this time in the child’s learning journey is effective and sets the child up for success in the key areas of reading and writing. This is a once off programme that is offered to selected parents of children in Senior Infants. A programme of this kind is not offered at any other time in the child’s primary school journey. If you have not received a letter in relation to this programme, it is not relevant for your child. If you did receive a letter, we look forward to seeing you on Monday 13th February at 13:10 in Mary Treasa's room. Please note this meeting is for parents only. Alternative childcare should be arranged ahead of the meeting. This year the Student Council decided to set up suggestion boxes around the school. The suggestion boxes were a chance for everybody to make a suggestion for something they would like to see happen in the school. The Student Council looked through all the suggestions and picked three that they felt they could achieve. One of them was a running track around the yard. With John's help we now have a path around the yard for children to walk, jog and run on. All the classes are hoping to complete lots of laps as we work towards our Active Flag this year.
The Student Council are now working hard to achieve other suggestions from the suggestion boxes. Please find a calendar of lots of free of charge parenting courses available in Tallaght below. The Parents Plus Course provided by Crosscare is open to all parents/ carers but the courses provided by most other agencies are limited to parents/ carers from the Tallaght or Whitechurch area. The contact person for information/ booking places on each course is listed on the calendar. Please contact the relevant person listed for further information. Have you any small, electrical or metal items lying around your house that you have been meaning to get rid of?... Well, THIS FRIDAY 10th February, 'Recycle IT' are paying a visit to the school to collect any unwanted items from the Citywest Educate Together community! This is a great opportunity to get a head start on your spring clean. Just simply drop off whatever it is that you want to recycle to our GP space (where the clothes collection point is), remembering to leave behind only small to medium sized items.
1st February each year is an exciting day - it's the day we send emails offering school places for September.
This year, all families who had pre-enroled for a place in the mainstream classes of Junior Infants, 3rd class, 4th class or 5th class by 31st January 2017 were offered a place for their child. All other classes remain full and we have waiting lists in operation. There are 8 families we have been trying to get in touch with to offer them a school place but it seems that all contact details we have for these families are out-of-date. If you believe that you should have received an offer from us and haven't, please get in touch immediately. These offers are valid until Wednesday 8th February only. We have children on waiting lists for all classes apart from 4th class and we will be proceeding to re-allocate places from Thursday 9th February. This week is Active Flag Launch Week and we have kick started our journey towards earning an Active Flag for our school. On Monday morning we introduced the Active Agents to the school during a whole school active assembly. The Active Agents did a great job leading a ten minute aerobics session with our school community.
Each class has an Active Agent who will encourage their classmates and teachers to remember to be active during the school day. The Active Agents will also help to update our Active Flag noticeboard with any active news within our school community, we are especially interested in hearing of activities that children are engaged in outside of school. Check out the Active Flag section with more information and please complete our parent's and studentS' survey, we really want to hear your opinions about active life in Citywest ETNS. |
