The children of Citywest ETNS have been very busy this term and have learnt lots from their SESE lessons!! From the Intel Mini-Scientist Competition in 4th Class, to history trails in 2nd Class and map making in Junior Infants, the national school curriculum that comprises History, Geography and Science just keeps on giving! |
Check out the fun that was had by our Junior Infant classes as they replicated that exciting trail from 'Rosie's walk'. And see here how Senior Infants really 'got back to nature' one wintery morning in school! Then, in Second Class, see how the children were not only busy designing maps for their bee bots, but how they also went on a history trail of our neighbouring village, Saggart! Third Class were very lucky to have a visitor from OWLS come in and teach them about habitats and native Irish animals! And check out the picutres below to see how Fourth Class turned it up a notch in the exploration of all-things-scientific, when they got together to develop some AMAZING group science projects for the Intel Mini-Scientist Competition!! Yesterday, Davy Byrne - corner back for the Dublin Senior Men's Football team - visited our school, along with another very special guest - the Sam Maguire Cup - the trophy the Dublin team won when they beat Mayo in the All-Ireland Football Final in September. They were also accompanied by Peter, our local GAA outreach officer - who is currently teaching the boys and girls in Second Class how to play football and hurling. The whole school assembled in the PE hall to welcome them and they arrived to a chorus of 'Come On You Boys in Blue'! Some children had an opportunity to ask Davy some questions about the experience of playing a final in Croke Park and getting to lift the Sam. Then each class had their pictures taken with it. Come to our Family Movie Night! Our Family Movie Night will run from 18:00-20:00 on Thursday 15th December. We hope Family Movie Night will be a nice way for our school community to come together, relax with a movie and snacks, while also raising some money for our school. We have decided that ipads are a priority right now for our school so money raised on the night will go towards buying ipads for our classrooms. Each movie ticket and snacks (popcorn, jellies and a drink) will cost €5 per child and €8 for 2 or more children. Children of all ages (toddlers up to 6th class) are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Looking forward to seeing you all for a great Family Movie Night! Mother Language and Book Week culminated today with the children (and staff) dressing up as their favourite book character. We also had the grand opening of our new school library to classes! Take a look at some of this week's activity below. Poetry sessions took place every morning, parent and grandparent reading sessions took place throughout the week too! A big thank you to those parents and grandparents that took the time to come and read to the children. A big thank you also to our wonderful school community who made Mother Language and Book Week 2016 such a success. Keep reading!!! Yet again, our staff is expanding and we have more staff to support the learning and care needs of our pupils. We are thrilled to welcome Michael and Avril to the team as bus driver and escort for the children in Leonie's class. We are also thrilled to welcome Siobhan back to the school as SNA!
