New Capoeira class at Citywest ETNS!

31/8/2014

Wonderful news! We know you will join us in celebrating this one...
Capoeira is back!

Following messages from parents about how disappointed they were to learn that Diogo is not returning due to his moving to another country, Caitriona asked Diogo whether there was another Capoeira teacher he could recommend who would be interested in teaching a class at our school. And he found one!

Sansao Maia is from Brazil. He has been living and teaching Capoeira in Ireland since 2001, when he set up the first Capoeira group in Ireland, Capoeira Ireland.  Working in a number of primary and secondary schools around Ireland, as well as Walton's music school, Trinity College, UCD and IT Tallaght, he holds a Master of Capoeira qualification as well as a number of other relevant qualifications.

Sansao Maia is very excited to bring his expertise to Citywest Educate Together NS and, needless to say, we are thrilled to be welcoming him!

Classes will be after school on Mondays and cost 7 euro per class, or 35 euro for 5 classes.

This brings the number of classes in our after-school programme to 5! Lots of choice for all interests! You can now sign up online for any after-school class.

Please note that the school will not accept payment on behalf of any after-school provider.  Parents should organise payment with the provider directly.

Photography on first day of school

31/8/2014

The first day of school is an exciting day for every family. We acknowledge your wish to take photographs of this special occasion. However, we also acknowledge and respect the right of other children to not have their photo taken and/or published, online or elsewhere, without their permission.

Please follow our photography guidelines, which worked very well last year. If everyone co-operates with these, we can continue to allow photographs at the school.

  • No photographs of individual children (apart from your own child)

  • No photos on social media

Thank you for your support and co-operation.

Change to after-school schedule

26/8/2014

With Capoeira cancelled, we have moved our after-school Music class from Mondays to Wednesdays. This means that children in Junior Infants won't have to choose between Speech and Drama and Music and can do both, should they choose to! Please see our after-school class page for class details. We'll add details as they come in.

No more Capoeira!

26/8/2014

We are very disappointed to share the news with you that Capoeira classes will not take place this year. Diogo's family have been given a wonderful opportunity to study, work and live in Germany and we wish them the very best in their new adventure.

We are hopeful that more classes will join our after-school programme this year. Check back here to keep up-to-date!

New teachers appointed!

22/8/2014

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of more new teachers for our school. We know you will join us in warmly welcoming Jenna Boland, Eldon Hilliard and Mary Treasa Barry to our school community. They are very much looking forward to meeting the children on 1st September and to meeting all the parents at our Parent Information Evening on Thursday 11th September.

Yard Games!

7/8/2014

In a VERY exciting new development, we are thrilled to announce that we will have games painted on our yard when we return to school in September! We hope the children will love them and have lots of fun playing with them at yard time and PE time! We'll post photos of the children having fun when we return to school in September.

No Irish dancing after-school class

7/8/2014

Regretfully the provider of our Irish dancing after-school class will not be able to proceed with the class from September.

We remain open to approaches from class providers who wish to run an after-school class in our school. If you would like to hold an after-school class in Citywest Educate Together N.S., please contact Caitriona.

New Interactive Whiteboards ordered!

1/8/2014

The bad news.... Our Interactive Whiteboards were on loan and were removed as soon as school ended for the year. Many thanks to our landlord for letting us use them up to now.

The great news....
We have ordered 7 brand new Interactive Whiteboards! This means that every classroom will have a brand new Interactive Whiteboard (IWB). We have also ordered an IWB step for each classroom so that even the shortest of our pupils can access and use this wonderful resource! Finally, we are getting Wifi into the school before the start of the school year, which means that BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Days can be even more effective! Needless to say, we are very excited!

Building work progresses!

1/8/2014

The school is a hive of activity! Our halls, stairs and corridors are being painted a lovely warm yellow - it looks great! Nicola's new office is nearly complete. And walls on the second floor have been knocked to create our new classroom spaces. Next is toilets and floors!

Our caretaker, John, is busy watering and protecting the lovely flowers the children planted at our entrance.

So far, everything is going to plan and so we are very hopeful it will all be ready on time this year - fingers crossed!

Staffing changes

1/8/2014

We have a number of changes to our staff for the new school year.

Maggie Etherson is moving back to the school she was in before coming to Citywest ETNS, which is Griffeen Valley ETNS. We wish Maggie the very best in her post and thank her for her commitment to Citywest ETNS over the past year.

Ross O Corrain is stepping down as Deputy Principal of the school. Ross has had an intense two years in our school, as Acting Principal and as Deputy Principal, and his commitment to the school and work for the school during this time is very much appreciated. Ross is looking forward to working with Junior Infants and continues to be a vibrant leader in our community.

This creates a wonderful opportunity for another member of staff. Anita Collings will be Acting Deputy Principal for the first few months of the new school year.

Finally, we look forward to welcoming a number of new teachers to our school. Already, we know that Jenna Boland will be joining us to teach in Junior Infants. We will also be welcoming a new teacher for Senior Infants, 1st class and for Learning Support. In addition, we look forward to welcoming a member of staff from Adamstown Castle ETNS one day per week to work in a support teaching role.

New teachers will be appointed in the last week in August. We will update our website with news as soon as we have it.
