Time to get drawing!

29/1/2018

Thank you SO much to all of those who contributed to our search for values and concepts that should be respresented on our new logo or crest. We loved going through the responses! We took all of the responses - from children, parents, staff and Board of Management - and collated the words into Word Art. There are two word clouds below - one for values that should be represented and one for artistic suggestions. The more a word or idea was suggested, the bigger it appears in the cloud.

We hope that these words inspire our pupils to create crests and logos that are a good fit for our school!

We are now asking the children (with support of adults!) to create drawings of logos and crests that we could use. Have a look through the word clouds and be inspired! Give your drawing to your teacher before we finish up for mid-term break on 15th February.

The new crest committee, along with our Student Council, will take the drawings and pick those that best represent our school and the ideas put forward by our community to send to the generous parents who offered to use their graphic design skills to turn them into professional images.

Let your creativity know no bounds and get drawing!

Sam Maguire will visit our school

25/1/2018

Sam Maguire will visit our school on Thursday 1st February. The cup will be in the school all day and will visit each classroom, much to the excitement of all the children. It will also be available at the reception area from 12.55 to 1.25pm and 1.55- 2.25pm for any parents who wish to see the cup and get photos. 2017 was a particularly historic year in Dublin GAA as Dublin completed 3 All Ireland's in a row, 2015, 2016 and 2017.  We hope that the visit of the cup can inspire our children to work hard, train hard and achieve in their area of interest. And hopefully in years to come our present children will be returning with cups and trophies of their own.

We look forward to a very exciting day on Thursday 1st February, Shane

New collection procedures for Junior Infants

23/1/2018

Last Friday afternoon at Junior Infant collection time, three male youths gained access to our school. Thanks to the vigilance of school staff, they were stopped and escorted off the premises before they got as far as any children or classrooms. Gardai were notified.

We did get a fright and very much wish to avoid such a situation happening again and so we have amended collection procedures for Junior Infants. Junior Infants will now be collected from the school yard. We expect it to take a few days to settle into the new procedures and we thank you for your patience with us as this happens.

As always, please be vigilant regarding access to the school. If you see someone access the school who is acting in an odd way or does not seem to belong, either act on it (e.g. asking the person are they alright and watching them while they are at the school) or alert school staff. Do not allow anyone into the school when you have been given access by school staff. Child safety is the responsibility of every one of us and we work as a team.

We want a Second-Level School!

15/1/2018

When the hard-working second-level committee asked for our help in progressing the campaign for a secondary school for our pupils, we were delighted to help. Every child wrote a letter or drew a picture to the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, last week. We brought the letters and pictures to assembly and talked about why we want to stay together in Citywest when we are teenagers. We collected the letters and gave them to the committee, who hope to deliver them directly to the Minister later this month. Please support the committee's work if you can - these are the parents who lobbied and campaigned and interviewed and leaflet-dropped and worked so hard for over 5 years to get our school started, work which is benefitting every single one of our families. Now, they are focussed on getting another school for Citywest, a secondary school, so that our children can stay together when they leave this school, stay in their community and hopefully stay in the Educate Together bubble too!

New school crest/logo!

15/1/2018

Now that our school is 5.5 years old, we have our own identity, we have our own community, we have our own passions and priorities and history and dreams. And it is time to have that reflected in the school logo or crest (We're not sure yet which it will be!)

At assembly last Friday, we launched the plan for creating it...
1. We want our community to think about what should be reflected in the crest/logo - what values, what relationships, what history, what geography, what colours, what priorities

2. We will take all of the ideas on board and choose the words that best represent the ideas from our community. We will share these key words with the community.

3. We will ask the children to design logos/crests keeping these keys concepts in mind.

4. We will choose the logos/crests that best demonstrate those concepts and ask graphic designers to turn them into graphic logos/crests.

5. We will choose a winning logo or crest.

6. The winning logo/crest will hopefully show the work and thoughts of lots of people and will be used by our school for everything from letterheads to signage to sports jerseys.

We are very excited about this and we can't wait to hear your ideas!

Of course, we are interested in hearing from parents and guardians as well as from staff and children. Please have a look at the powerpoint presentation our logo committee (Martha, Laura B, Shane and Caitriona) put together. Each class will be working through this during the week so don't give the game away if they haven't done it yet!

Please complete the form below to give us your ideas. As we want to order our jerseys in April, we have very tight deadlines on each step along the way - we need your input on concepts by Monday, 22nd January!

We know there is a lot of talent in our parent body and we would love to use it! Are you a graphic designer or do you have graphic design skills? Would you like to be involved in turning a child's drawing into a graphic logo or crest? Our expectation is that we will get the drawing(s) to you mid-February and hope to get them back by the end of February. We would love to get lots of parents involved in this! Please complete the second form below if you have skills that we could use here.
