There are so many potential dangers with this, including risk of abduction, fire, electrical fault resulting in a child being locked in the car and unable to escape, a child choking on even a piece of fluff they pick off their jacket. We cannot allow this to continue.
If your young child is asleep or is likely to run away from you, ask a friend to collect your child from the school door and escort them to your car. Or, if your school-going child is older, perhaps they could walk as far as the car park and meet you there.
If anyone sees a child left in a car unsupervised, they should call the Gardai and report it to them.
Our children are so precious and worth so much more than the few minutes it will save or the peace of collecting an older child without trying to contain a runaway toddler. Please support each other in this. Thank you.
